Shame usually accompanies guilt.

It's an emotion that holds us down, like a pressing weight. It binds us to our past like a ball and chain.  It does not know how to forgive.  Perhaps it does not even believe in forgiveness!

Shame "has no shame"

It is content to destroy our self-worth and identity, and to burden us with self-loathing and self-destruction.

Learning to process our shame; bringing it into "the light" and   acknowledging our emotions around shame - breaks it's power over us.
